About the Scholarship
The Catharine Canestraro Mackey Scholarship was established in the summer of 1997 when an Elementary Teacher of Urbana City Schools had lost her fight with breast cancer. Catharine "Cathy" was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 1994 after her second child was born. After her death the Urbana City Administration wanted to honor her with a scholarship eligible to any Urbana High School Graduate majoring in education.
